Hill, Niesen Named 2023 INCPAS Award Recipients

INDIANAPOLIS – Katz, Sapper & Miller, a leading advisory, tax, and audit firm, is pleased to announce that Karen Hill and Donna Niesen have been honored as 2023 award recipients by the Indiana CPA Society (INCPAS). The awards recognize individuals who are advancing their profession, organizations, and communities.

Karen Hill

Karen Hill, KSM’s director of talent acquisition and staffing, was selected as the winner of the Talent Pipeline Award. The award honors an individual or organization that is building, diversifying, and/or retaining talent in the accounting profession. Hill was selected for her exceptional leadership in building innovative apprenticeship programs, expanding recruitment efforts to diverse talent pools through remote work, and spearheading a comprehensive DEI talent strategy. Additionally, Hill collaborated with consultants to evaluate and mitigate biases in the hiring process, ensuring fair consideration for underrepresented individuals.

Donna Niesen

Donna Niesen, partner-in-charge of KSM’s State & Local Tax Group, was selected as the winner of the Advocacy Award. The award honors an individual or organization that has advocated on behalf of the CPA profession by working with the INCPAS advocacy team, legislators, and/or regulatory officials. Niesen was selected for her active involvement in key committees and pivotal roles in drafting tax legislation. Niesen’s collaboration with legislative leaders, bill sponsors, and tax experts, along with her testimony before the Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee, have resulted in impactful changes in tax policy such as Indiana’s pass-through entity tax.

Hill and Niesen, along with other award winners and finalists, were recognized at INCPAS’ annual awards program in downtown Indianapolis on Nov. 17.
