6 Tips for Strategically Managing Transportation Brokers

In the course of our consulting practice, we review and analyze many carriers’ freight networks. This consultation includes reviewing clients’ strengths and weaknesses when it comes to managing transportation services. While every carrier we visit uses transportation brokers, most do not have a strategy for those relationships. Carrier/broker relationships are largely transactional in nature, and are typically handled at a low level in the carrier’s organization.

From the middle of 2017 to the middle of 2018, trucking was on a roll. With industry growth of three percent – a seismic number compared to other industries – trucking outpaced GDP. Leaders agree the heydays are unlikely to continue at such an impressive pace, and a reversion to the mean is expected, but the industry is still well-poised to maintain a positive outlook going forward.
