Technology Is Changing the Demands, Processes and Labor in Manufacturing

Today’s consumers want the “smartest” product on the market. They want the newest make and model. They want options, upgrades, and customized products that keep them connected. As if that’s not enough, they wanted it all yesterday. Gone are the days of mass-produced “vanilla” widgets that take months to produce.

Investors are “Hopped Up” on Craft Beer

Hoosiers can’t seem to get enough craft beer these days. With popularity increasing, breweries are popping up all over the state and are topping the tech and manufacturing markets in terms of growing capital. With craft beer sales growing 20% in 2013 ($14.3 billion), breweries and distilleries have drawn considerable attention across the nation.

Manufacturing Leads the Way for Indiana

The Indiana Manufacturers Association's (IMA) Legislative Briefing, held January 15, 2014, highlighted the success of the manufacturing industry in Indiana. Currently, manufacturing is leading the state in several  categories including: direct employment, gross state product, wages and benefits.

Manufacturing Jobs Move Back Home: Are You Part of the Trend?

More and more jobs are moving back to the U.S. as the margin of cost benefit of outsourcing those jobs continues to minimize. A CNN article summarizing the results from a survey published this week by the Boston Consulting Group showed the number of firms that have moved production back to the U.S. or plan to do so in the next two years has doubled over the past 18 months.

LIFO: Will It Stay or Go?

Among the top revenue raising topics included in the current budget proposal is the repeal of the LIFO method. Though this is not the first time the LIFO repeal has been included in a proposed budget, some are worrying that it may just pass this time. This could be a nightmare for some manufacturing companies.
