Dorothy Sobocinska is a director in KSM’s Chicago office and a member of the firm’s Business Advisory Group. She provides tax consulting and compliance services to closely held businesses, with extensive experience advising automotive dealerships and their related entities. Dorothy works closely with business owners, CFOs, and leadership teams to navigate complex federal and multistate tax matters, identify planning opportunities, and develop practical strategies designed to improve cash flow and support long-term business objectives.
Dorothy brings two decades of public accounting experience advising privately held businesses across a range of industries. Before joining KSM, she spent nearly a decade at a large national firm, where she specialized in serving automotive dealership clients. She advises dealership groups, specialty finance companies, leasing entities, real estate holdings, and family-owned businesses on tax planning, entity structuring, accounting methods, shareholder and partner tax matters, and multistate compliance. Her approach combines technical tax knowledge with a practical understanding of dealership operations, enabling clients to make informed decisions while managing risk and maximizing tax efficiencies.
In addition to serving clients, Dorothy is actively involved in developing tax professionals through technical training and mentoring. She presents on federal tax developments and shares insights on emerging tax issues and industry trends.
Early in my career, I focused on having the right answers. I learned that asking the right questions is often more valuable. Understanding a client’s goals, listening carefully, and building trust lead to better advice and a lasting impact.
Dorothy earned a Bachelor of Science degree in taxation from WSB Merito University in Poland and a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Benedictine University. She also earned a Master of Science degree in taxation from William Howard Taft University.
Dorothy is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Illinois CPA Society, where she serves on the Awards Committee and the Women’s Committee. She has also served as board treasurer for the Elmhurst Swim Team.
