2018 Indiana Manufacturing Survey: Industry 4.0 Has Arrived

State of Hoosier Manufacturing

2018 Survey Results

The results are in from the 2018 Indiana Manufacturing Survey: Industry 4.0 Has Arrived. They reveal that as Indiana’s largest industry sector is enjoying continued growth in revenues and profits, its employers are investing heavily in automation, welcoming a movement that, nationally, has been dubbed “Industry 4.0.”

The survey findings also show that most Indiana manufacturers consider investments in facilities, machinery, and related information technology to be their top concern. Meanwhile, the percentage of firms identifying workforce development as their top concern declined to its lowest level in a decade.

“Manufacturers continue to see automation not only as a way to increase efficiency and productivity, but also as a way to address workforce shortages,” said Jason Patch, partner-in-charge of Katz, Sapper & Miller’s Manufacturing and Distribution Services Group.

KSM and Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business conduct the annual Indiana Manufacturing Survey, now in its 12th year, in partnership with the Indiana Manufacturers Association. Designed to provide insights into management choices made by manufacturing companies across Indiana, the annual survey offers a better understanding of current market trends and best practices in the following categories:

  • Economic and Financial Performance Metrics
  • Regulatory and Trade Concerns
  • Business Strategies and Industry 4.0
  • Workforce Issues
