Rick Nelson is a vice president with Noble Consulting Services, Inc., KSM’s insurance regulatory consulting group. Rick has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance industry. He develops firm-wide best practices for conducting risk-focused examinations and also serves as the supervising examiner and examiner-in-charge (EIC) on financial and market conduct examinations of all types of insurers, including multistate coordinated examinations.

Rick provides guidance on NAIC accreditation compliance, procedures, best practices, and reviews. He has developed customized examination tools for risk retention groups, special purpose financial captives, and pure captives and is a frequent speaker and moderator at insurance conferences.

Prior to joining Noble in 2023, Rick served as the principal and regulatory services practice leader of a national provider of audit, tax, and consulting services to the insurance industry. Prior to that, he served in various senior leadership roles with Big Four and top 25 public accounting firms.

I have had two strong female role models and mentors who have contributed to my professional development. Especially in the early stages of my career, they provided direction and advice that I greatly appreciated and helped lead to my success.

Rick received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Thomas College. He has earned the Certified Financial Examiner designation from the Society of Financial Examiners (SOFE) and the Certified Insurance Examiner and Market Conduct Management designations from the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society (IRES).

Rick is a member of IRES, the Insurance Accounting and Systems Association, and SOFE, where he previously served on the board of governors and executive committee for 10 years, including one year as president.
