Kristy McElroy is a partner in KSM’s Chicago office and a member of the firm’s Business Advisory Group. For over 20 years, Kristy has worked closely with clients to develop forward-looking tax strategies that reduce risk, enhance compliance, and support financial goals. She uses her extensive knowledge in pass-through entity taxation to advise clients in the real estate, professional services, automobile dealership, and private equity industries as well as high-net-worth individuals.
Kristy helps clients navigate a wide range of tax and financial matters, including complex partnership taxation, multistate nexus and apportionment, IRA contribution and distribution rules, Roth conversion planning, employee benefits, and retirement plans.
Before joining KSM, Kristy was a partner at MichaelSilver, an independent advisory, tax, and assurance firm in the Chicagoland area, where she provided comprehensive tax advisory services. Prior to that, Kristy spent six years at a Big Four public accounting firm.
Whenever I face a setback or discover a mistake, I ask myself, “What can I learn from this?” I view challenges not as roadblocks but as opportunities to improve. For me, the silver lining in every difficult situation is the chance to grow, adapt, and become better than before.
Kristy received a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and international business from Valparaiso University.
Kristy is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Illinois CPA Society. Kristy served as an assistant coach for the Libertyville Girls Softball Association, where she supported youth athletic development and team-building efforts. She also volunteered her time at numerous events organized by local elementary school parent-teacher organizations, contributing to the success of school initiatives and community engagement efforts.
