John Hsiao is a partner in KSM’s Chicago office and a member of the firm’s Business Advisory Group. John helps business owners, high-net-worth individuals, and family offices solve complex tax challenges, navigate regulatory hurdles, and make informed decisions.
With more than 30 years of experience, John advises clients across a variety of industries – including professional services, manufacturing and distribution, and private family groups – on a wide range of tax and business matters. His areas of expertise include mergers and acquisitions, IRS installment agreements, government tax audits, and estate and personal tax planning. John combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of client needs, enabling him to deliver practical solutions that support long-term financial goals and business growth.
Prior to joining KSM, John served as a partner at MichaelSilver, a longstanding, independent Chicagoland advisory, tax, and assurance firm, where he most recently led the firm’s tax department in providing tax strategy and compliance initiatives for clients.

John earned both a Master of Science degree in taxation and a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
John is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the Illinois CPA Society, and the Asian American Business Association. He also serves as treasurer on the board of directors for the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, the only museum in the Midwest dedicated to celebrating and preserving Chinese American history, culture, and art.
