KSM Releases Third Annual DEI Report
KSM has released its third annual diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) report for employees. Produced by the firm’s DEI committee, INSPIRE, the report includes information on the firm’s journey to becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace in order to best serve its employees, its clients, and its communities. The report encompasses the year between July 2020 and June 2021, a pivotal time in the life of the firm in which many of KSM’s employees worked remotely during the harshest months of the pandemic and the country dealt with a racial reckoning. INSPIRE adapted its focus accordingly.
“This year, we expanded our historical focus on women’s issues to include topics on race, generational differences, and mental health,” said Katherine Malarsky, a director in KSM’s Tax Services Group and INSPIRE’s lead. “We also added a focus on equity. While this shift was commonplace for workplaces in 2020, when we thought about the meaning of equity, it was really woven into everything we were already doing. However, it was important for us to explicitly state our commitment to being equitable in all things that we do.”
KSM’s DEI report includes:
- The compelling case for diversity and inclusion in accounting
- KSM’s recruiting pipeline data
- A look at KSM’s response to racial injustice, including an internal four-part series on racial justice and equity, and how some of INSPIRE’s programs impacted employees
- Resources that provide insightful context and education
“In a society that’s undergoing tremendous change, diversity, equity, and inclusion will undoubtedly continue to be a part of our national conversation. It’s also a critical piece of KSM’s future success,” said Tim Cook, KSM CEO and president. “Our DEI efforts started with our employees, and they continue to be the driving force behind those efforts. I’m proud of the empathy they’ve shown for others and their work for change. Our firm will only be better for it.”
Smart, experienced, and visionary, Tim takes on the firm’s top role at a pivotal time.
