COVID-19 Business Survival Series: “Public-Private Partnerships 2.0”

May 5, 2020

KSM

The use of public-private partnerships to move deals across the finish line has been a hot topic for years. But as COVID-19 threatens all sectors of the economy, government and private companies are collaborating with each other like never before to get things up and running again.

Katz, Sapper & Miller and Gerry Dick continue our COVID-19 Business Survival Series with a segment on Inside INdiana Business featuring KSM Location Advisors President Katie Culp, Indiana Secretary of Commerce Jim Schellinger, and Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness discussing the innovative partnerships that are taking place across the state of Indiana, some of which include:

  • Since the Indiana Economic Development Corp. has been called on by Gov. Eric Holcomb to serve as a “concierge” during this crisis, Schellinger states that the corporation has managed to coordinate with the private sector to produce nearly 8 million pieces of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • The city of Fishers has created a formal recovery plan that calls on multiple public and private organizations to partner to provide testing, loan programs, educational programs, and more. For example, the city will provide startup funds through the Start-Up and Recovery Loan program to help small businesses restart their normal operations.

Culp says these partnerships are incredibly helpful as the business community waits with uncertainty to see what the future holds. “I applaud what Secretary Schellinger, Mayor Fadess, and Gov. Holcomb are doing because – just like the companies themselves – they’re only getting so much information from the federal government.”
