ICLEF Conference - Practical Tax Law for the Non-Tax Attorney: Following Tax Reform

Katherine Malarsky, director in KSM’s Tax Services Group, will discuss international tax reform at an Indiana Continuing Legal Education Forum (ICLEF) seminar on Dec. 11. The event, held at the ICLEF Conference Facility in Indianapolis, will educate non-tax attorneys of all backgrounds on tax law updates spurred by recent tax reform. The fast-paced seminar, worth three CLE credits, will feature nine different speakers giving 20-minute presentations. A variety of topics will be covered, including:

  • International tax
  • Federal tax
  • State income tax
  • Property tax
  • Nonprofit tax
  • Sales & use tax
  • Entity tax
  • Tax preparer fraud & tax identify theft
  • Death tax

Malarksy will examine tax reform’s impact on international tax in her presentation, “International Tax in a Post-Tax Reform World.” She will cover major changes, including the transition tax, Global Intangible Low-Taxed Income Inclusions (GILTI), Foreign-Derived Intangible Income (FDII) deductions, Base Erosion and Anti-Abuse Tax (BEAT), the importance of foreign asset reporting, and disclosure program options. 

Attendees will learn how to:

  • Understand a broad overview of the sweeping changes to international tax as a result of tax reform
  • Analyze and determine the impact of GILTI, FDII, and BEAT on their organizations and owners
  • Recognize the importance of and risks related to foreign asset reporting
  • Understand the available disclosure program options
