Chad Halstead

Chad Halstead is a partner in Katz, Sapper & Miller’s Tax Services Group. With a strong background in analytical research and technical review of federal tax issues, Chad identifies innovative solutions to minimize taxes for his clients. With a primary focus on transactional tax issues in both real estate and private equity, he helps clients navigate complex formational and structural tax issues. He has particular experience guiding companies through the development and implementation of tax structures from which government incentives can be received on a tax-free or tax-deferred basis. This experience spans the country, providing Chad unique insight into the nuances of dealing with local economic development entities and their advisors. He is a frequent speaker and author on this issue.

Additionally, Chad leads the firm’s Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZs) practice, assisting clients with creating and maintaining Qualified Opportunity Funds (QOFs), ensuring compliance, identifying and monitoring projects, and more. He has helped structure QOFs ranging from small, single-asset funds to large multi-asset funds that have invested in QOZs throughout the United States.

Chad graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Indiana University, and he received his Juris Doctorate from Indiana University Maurer School of Law.

Chad is a member of the Indiana State Bar Association and Indianapolis Bar Association, where he formerly served as chair of the Tax Section. He is admitted to practice law in the state of Indiana.
