FASB/IASB Revenue Recognition Proposals Re-Exposed

The Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) have agreed that their revised proposals for a common revenue recognition standard should be re-exposed. The original exposure drafts were issued in June 2010.

Tax & Accounting Alert - IRS Extends FBAR Deadline for Certain Filers with Signature Authority

On June 16, the IRS released Notice 2011-54, which provides additional time for certain individuals with signature authority over (but no financial interest in) foreign financial accounts to file Form TDF 90-22.1, Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR).

Tax & Accounting Alert -- Revenue Procedure 2011-26 Offers New Guidance on 50% and 100% Bonus Depreciation

Earlier this year, the IRS issued Revenue Procedure 2011-26, which provides guidance on claiming the 50% or 100% first-year depreciation bonus for qualifying business property. The guidance explains the requirements for claiming 100% bonus depreciation and allows taxpayers to elect 50% bonus depreciation in lieu of 100% bonus depreciation for certain property placed in service in 2010.

2011 Manufacturing and Logistics Scorecard

The 2011 Manufacturing and Logistics Report Card, presented by Conexus Indiana and Ball State University, has been released. The scorecard compares Indiana to other states in several key areas of the economy that underlie the success of manufacturing and logistics.

Hospital Tax Compliance - Just Got Slightly Easier (For Now)

We just learned of some relief for healthcare tax compliance folks. The Internal Revenue Service just announced that, generally, hospitals are exempt from the requirement to complete Part V, Section B of Schedule H on the Form 990.

Lease Accounting: One Model or Two?

In August 2010, the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the International Accounting Standards Board (the Boards) jointly issued exposure drafts tied to accounting for leases. The exposure drafts are an attempt to ensure that assets and liabilities arising under lease arrangements are recorded in the statement of financial position.

A Common Complication with Lease Arrangements/PSAs - Overhead in Multi-specialty Groups

Even though lease arrangements (aka, professional services agreements, or PSAs) for some specialists make financial sense for the individual MDs, an important challenge is figuring out how to integrate these arrangements in a multi-specialty setting.
