KSM’s Veterinary Services Group to Present at IVMA 2017 Annual Meeting

Posted 5:00 AM by

Katz, Sapper & Miller’s Terry O’Neil, Beth Scott and Ali Todd will present at the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association’s (IVMA) 2017 Annual Meeting. Taking place March 2-5 at the Indianapolis Marriott East, this conference offers continuing education to veterinary medical professionals through various program tracks, including small animal, large animal and exotics, equine, practice management, and health and wellness.

KSM’s Veterinary Services team will present five unique sessions in the practice management program track:

Veterinary Hospital Financial Benchmarks: National Trends that Lead to Profitability

During this session, attendees will review global practice statistics, gain a greater understanding of how to interpret their own numbers and devise strategies to increase growth. Owners and DVMs will also hear about the latest issues and trends in veterinary practices, such as generational issues, corporate consolidation, online competition and low-cost competition.

Internal Controls

Proper internal controls can help protect an animal hospital from fraud and theft. This interactive session will review best practices for establishing proper internal controls, including segregation of duties, having business bank statements mailed to the owner’s home address, and trading check-signing authority at hospitals with multiple owners.

Financial Statements: A DVM’s Guide to Reviewing and Interpreting the Numbers

Going beyond the basics of financial statements, this session will get to the heart of the matter – why a fundamental understanding of financial statements will help ensure a hospital’s well-being. Topics covered will include which method of accounting to use, valuable ways to read financials, how to use financials as a measure of progress toward goals and more.

How to Prepare a Budget

Budgets can benefit a practice in many different ways – from being able to anticipate problems and make continuous improvements to enabling sound financial decisions and establishing accountability. A sample DVM budget, accounting for all the categories and types of expenses an animal hospital would encounter, will give attendees a template for implementing a budget at their own practice.

Strategic Planning: A Hospital Playbook

Strategic planning, simply put, is determining where the hospital is going, how it is going to get there and how the hospital will measure its progress. Owners and DVMs will learn how to run a strategic planning meeting and will review how to build an agenda, who should attend, what documents to prepare or update, what should be reviewed prior to the meeting, and what topics should be covered.
