KSM’s Veterinary Services Group to Present at 2017 Profit and Value Enhancement Conference

Posted 4:39 PM by

Katz, Sapper & Miller’s Veterinary Services Group will present several sessions at the 2017 Veterinary Profit & Value Enhancement Conference, which will be held August 9-11 at the Conrad in Indianapolis, IN.

Hosted by Veterinary Study Groups, Inc., this two-day event offers more than 15 educational sessions focusing on key veterinary practice management issues, which range from compliance and marketing to monitoring financials and goal setting. KSM’s veterinary industry professionals will address a variety of topics, including the following:

Veterinary Hospital Financial Benchmarks: National Trends that Lead to Profitability

During this session, attendees will review global practice statistics, gain a greater understanding of how to interpret their own numbers and devise strategies to increase growth. Owners and DVMs will also hear about the latest issues and trends in veterinary practices – such as generational issues, corporate consolidation, online competition and low-cost competition.

Compiling Your Hospital's KPIs into an Effective Management Tool

Setting profitability goals and internal budgets is a good first step toward hospital profitability. But the second step should be tracking performance. Key performance indicator (KPI) reports help proactively manage revenue and labor costs. Reviewing these reports on a weekly basis can help identify improvement areas and more efficiently track hospital strategies and goals.

Managing Labor and Direct Costs

Labor, benefits and direct costs are the most expensive cost categories for a veterinary practice. During this session, attendees will review various aspects of labor management and direct costs, including hiring, employee evaluations, compensation models and benefits, and inventory costs.

Veterinary Business Valuations

At one point or another, most veterinary hospitals will need a valuation. Important for owners and DVMs of all practices, this session will identify critical issues to consider, explain what information will be requested, which demographics will be studied and which contracts will be reviewed.

How to Prepare a Budget

Budgets can benefit a practice in many different ways – from being able to anticipate problems and make continuous improvements to enabling sound financial decisions and establishing accountability. A sample DVM budget – accounting for all the categories and types of expenses an animal hospital would encounter – will be shared with attendees, giving them a template for implementing a budget in their own practice.
