Horvath to Speak at Michigan Association of CPAs Nonprofit Conference

Posted 4:00 AM by

Amanda Horvath, director in Katz, Sapper & Miller’s Not-for-Profit Services Group, will present at the upcoming Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) Nonprofit Conference. Taking place Oct. 3 in Lansing, MI, this conference will discuss how the shift of for-profit CFOs and personnel moving into the sector is presenting unique challenges to today’s not-for-profit organizations.

Horvath’s session, “Dispelling the Misinterpretation of Audit Deficiencies,” will reveal the recommended steps for building a system to address audit comments and deficiencies, including effective communication strategies for boards and governing committees.

This conference will focus on a variety of emerging issues the industry is facing, including:

  • Endowment accounting
  • Internal controls
  • Gift acceptance: structure, recording, and reporting
  • Revenue recognition: contributions vs. exchange transactions
  • Implementation of the new revenue recognition standard
  • State taxes and requirements
  • Cybersecurity
  • Audit planning
  • Projecting cash flows and overall capitalization
  • Spotting and solving legal issues
